Music

Music is provided by the choral society, which owns a considerable stock of sheet music, some carol books and some copies of works such as Handel's Messiah and Mendelssohn's Elijah. Many members have their own carol books and some like to use their own copy of major works. For other members, the choral society hires copies of major works from the County Library Music Service.

Concerts
Music hall concert - click here for a bigger picture Our popular Christmas and Summer Concerts in Steventon Village Hall are regular annual events. Both feature lighter music, with carols at Christmas for the audience to join in. These concerts often follow a theme and the choir may enter into the spirit by dressing to suit the occasion. The choir also performs in local churches and halls, and to raise money for charity. Most concerts are accompanied by piano or organ, but the choir has sometimes joined with a local orchestra to perform a major choral work. A concert featuring such major works or a programme of choral music is presented in the spring – often on Palm Sunday in Steventon Church or another local church in aid of a charity nominated by the church.

For those halls and churches without a suitable piano or organ, the choral society has a portable electronic keyboard. To discuss a possible concert, contact the secretary Helen Pearce on 01635 281570.
