Choir helps raise over £2,500 for charity |
|||||
| During its busy 2003/2004 season, Steventon Choral Society led the way to help raise some £2,500 for charity. The main fund-raising event in October 2003 raised over £1,060 for Sir Michael Sobell House, Oxford, through ticket sales and sponsorship for a performance of Handel's Messiah by a scratch choir led by the choral society. This event at St Michael & All Angels Church, Steventon, on 4 October was part of Voices for Hospices 2003. A repeat performance at St Matthew's Church, Harwell, on 11 October raised almost £220 towards the redecoration of Harwell Village Hall. A Christmas concert by the choir in Steventon Village Hall raised over £575 for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association and a performance on 4 April of Mozart's Requiem at St Michael & All Angels Church, Steventon, resulted in £364 being raised to sponsor the travel of two young volunteers to India to help at St George's School in Chennai (formerly Madras). In May 2004, Steventon Choral Society was one of guests at a concert in Didcot Civic Hall that raised £300 to support the work of the Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre, Milton Park. The season ended with a concert with The Ilsleys Primary School Choir in St Mary's Church, East Isley, whose proceeds were divided between the church and the school. |
